Former accountant of a lyceum in Vinnytsia region embezzled millions of hryvnias

In the Vinnytsia region, an indictment has been filed against a former accountant at one of the lyceums in the Trostyanets community. According to the investigation, over the course of three years, the woman transferred funds from the educational institution to her personal accounts, embezzling 2.7 million hryvnias. This information was reported by the publication “Glavkom,” citing the Haisyn District Prosecutor’s Office.

Three Years of Fraud

Investigators established that from 2021 to 2024, the defendant systematically transferred budget funds from the educational institution’s accounts to her own bank account. To cover up her actions, she entered false data into documents related to employee payments, tax assessments, and union dues.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators from Police Department No. 2 of the Haisyn District Directorate of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Vinnytsia Oblast. The indictment was submitted to the court under the procedural supervision of the Haisyn District Prosecutor’s Office.

Punishment and Pre-trial Detention

The woman is charged under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—misappropriation of another person’s property through abuse of official position on an especially large scale. The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for up to three years and confiscation of property.

Currently, the defendant is under round-the-clock house arrest.

As a reminder, a similar scheme was used by an accountant at a high school in Troieshchyna, Kyiv, where, together with the principal, she embezzled a portion of budget funds while calculating teachers’ salaries. The total amount embezzled in that case amounted to 11.5 million hryvnias.
