An unusual incident occurred in Rēzekne during the night. At approximately 3:30 a.m., calls were received by the 112 emergency services reporting a possible fire at an oil depot on Komuna Street. Although firefighters did not find any open flames, one of the tanks required cooling.
Guntars Skudra, chairman of the Rezekne Regional Council, confirmed that a drone had crashed on the grounds of the East-West Transit branch, striking an empty oil tank. Residents of Rezekne shared posts on social media about the roar of engines in the sky, sounds resembling explosions, and flashes of light, and videos showing bright flashes over the city appeared online.
The search for the second drone continues
Andris Zellis, Deputy Chief of the Latvian State Police, said that two drones are known to have crashed, but the location of the second one has not yet been determined. “The fire has been contained; there is no threat,” Zellis reassured the public. The State Police has launched a criminal investigation to determine all the circumstances.
