Boris the deer, a social media sensation who was injured in a car accident, was not allowed to be transported to Lviv for treatment and remains in the Rivne region.
This was reported by the animal rescue center “Home for Rescued Animals” in a video message. “We just returned from visiting Boris the deer,” the message states.
After an X-ray, a fracture was detected in the animal, and there is a specialist in Lviv ready to operate on him using an Ilizarov apparatus. Although the chances of recovery are slim, they are better than doing nothing. But another problem has arisen—a ban on transporting him to Lviv. Some specialists from Kyiv believe the deer should be left where it is so the fracture can “heal” on its own.
However, veterinarians—both local ones and those who were sent video footage—disagree with this opinion. They warn that if necrosis sets in, the deer could die.
Animal rights activists insist on the need to transport Boris to Lviv for surgery. They also clarified that Boris has a broken hind leg.
