The Baltic countries’ interest in Ukraine’s experience in building shelters has grown amid frequent drone incursions into their airspace.
This is reported by Politico, according to Ukrinform. As drones increasingly penetrate the airspace of EU countries and Russia continues its massive attacks on Ukraine, the Baltic states have turned their attention to Ukrainian solutions for bomb shelters.
According to reports, Baltic companies have recently been actively communicating with Ukrainian defense manufacturers and civil protection experts to discuss the possibility of purchasing bomb shelters. This was confirmed by Ihor Fedirko, CEO of the Ukrainian Defense Industry Council.
Growing Threat
“Yes, it’s true,” Fedirko noted in an interview with Politico that took place during the GLOBSEC forum in Prague. “These countries are small in size, and they are seeking the best ways to protect themselves from potential Russian aggression to ensure the safety of their citizens.”
Last week, the president and prime minister of Lithuania had to be evacuated to underground bunkers, and residents of Vilnius were urged to take cover after a drone violated the country’s airspace.
NATO Steps Up Defense
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported that the drone was spotted near the border with Belarus and confirmed the activation of a NATO mission to patrol the Baltic airspace. Military leaders noted that the incident “resembles what has been happening in recent days in Latvia and Estonia.”
Discussions about bomb shelters indicate growing anxiety on NATO’s eastern flank due to the scale and intensity of the attacks.
