A horrific accident occurred near Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, killing at least 14 people and injuring 84. The incident took place late Monday evening at a railroad crossing.
According to Bobby Rasidin, director of the Indonesian state railway company, a commuter train collided with a taxi, after which it was thrown onto the oncoming track, where it collided with a long-distance train. The car designated exclusively for women was the hardest hit, resulting in the deaths of 14 female passengers.
Search and rescue operations have been completed, and injured passengers have been evacuated. An investigation into the causes of the tragedy is underway. Train accidents are not uncommon in Indonesia, where this mode of transportation is very popular. In 2024, four people were killed in a similar accident in West Java province.
