On the morning of May 4, 2026, Russian occupation forces launched a missile attack on the Kharkiv region, specifically targeting the city of Merefa. Three people were killed as a result of this tragic incident, according to Glavkom, citing Oleg Synyegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
Consequences of the shelling
According to preliminary data, the attack resulted in significant casualties. It is known that:
- three fatalities;
- eight wounded, who are receiving medical care.
“The death toll in Merefa has risen to three. Medical personnel are already providing assistance to eight victims,” Sinehubov noted.
Infrastructure damage
The shelling caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. Fires broke out at the impact sites:
- a private home and a car were burned;
- a car repair shop and the surrounding area were damaged;
- a store and neighboring houses were damaged by debris and the blast wave.
“Emergency services are already on the scene, dealing with the aftermath of the attack and gathering more information,” emphasized Oleg Synyegubov.
Local authorities are urging residents not to ignore air raid sirens, as the threat of new strikes still exists.
Earlier, “Glavkom” reported that Russian troops had carried out airstrikes on the Shostka community, resulting in significant destruction and civilian casualties.
