The Humanoids Summit Tokyo 2026, an international summit on humanoid robots, was held in the Japanese capital, where leading engineers presented their latest developments. Although the event was attended by well-known brands such as Boston Dynamics, Honda, and Toyota, new ambitious players from China attracted the most attention and are actively gaining market share.
According to RBC-Ukraine, citing Techxsplore, Chinese startups are confidently taking the lead in robotics, a field previously dominated by Japan.
Chinese innovations: how newcomers are outperforming established leaders
Analysts who attended the summit in Tokyo noted that the robotics industry is repeating a scenario that previously tripped up Japan’s electronics and mobile phone industries. Historically, Japan was the leader, but it has once again fallen victim to the “Galápagos syndrome”—when innovative products are developed in isolation and fail to adapt to the global market.
While Japanese companies were refining their expensive prototypes, Chinese upstarts such as Booster Robotics and LimX Dynamics took Japanese and American designs as a basis, optimized them, and began mass production at affordable prices. A striking example is the Mini Pi Plus bipedal robot from a Chinese company.
