Port in Leningrad region of Russia catches fire after drone attack

According to the governor, Russian air defense forces reportedly shot down 33 drones over the region. Meanwhile, rescue workers are trying to extinguish a fire at the port of Ust-Luga.

"According to preliminary data, there are no casualties. Hostilities are continuing," Drozdzenko noted.

Strategic importance of the port

The port of Ust-Luga is one of the largest in Russia on the Baltic Sea and plays a key role in the export of Russian petroleum products. It is located approximately 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Funding the military machine

This facility is crucial for financing the Russian military machine. In 2025, the port’s cargo turnover amounted to 130.5 million tons; it handles crude oil, petroleum products, liquid chemicals, ammonia and urea, coal, mineral fertilizers, and other goods.
