Oleg Veremienko, a soccer player for SC “Poltava,” received a six-month suspension for a rough foul that resulted in a serious injury to an opponent.
The UAF Control and Disciplinary Committee decided to suspend Veremienko following an incident that occurred during the match between "Poltava" and "Ingulets," which ended in a 0-0 draw.
Midway through the second half, while trying to reach the ball, Veremienko jumped with both feet onto Ingulets midfielder Nazar Prykhodko, causing him to sustain an injury.
The 24-year-old Prykhodko was forced to leave the field and underwent surgery, after which he will need 6 to 9 months to recover.
The UAF Disciplinary Committee noted that the length of Veremienko’s suspension is due to the severity of the injury sustained by his opponent and characterized the incident as a serious foul.
