Luxury yacht of a Russian oligarch successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz

A luxury superyacht linked to Russia’s wealthiest businessman managed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz despite ongoing blockades by Iran and the United States.

According to RBC-Ukraine, citing the BBC, the 142-meter vessel Nord, linked to Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov, set sail from Dubai to Muscat, the capital of Oman, last weekend. It is one of the few private vessels to have passed through the strait in recent months.

Mordashov, known for his close ties to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, is not formally listed as the yacht’s owner. However, records show that in 2022, the Nord was registered to a company owned by his wife.

The yacht, valued at over $500 million, left Dubai on Friday evening and arrived at Al-Muj, a marina in the Omani capital, on Sunday morning, according to data from the Marine Traffic platform. Flying the Russian flag, the Nord was able to pass through the strait, despite the fact that private vessels have largely avoided this route since the start of the conflict. The vessel features a swimming pool, a submarine, and a helipad.
