Israel is secretly strengthening its positions in Iraq to confront Iran

Tensions between Israel and Iran have reached a new level of secrecy and geographical scope. According to an investigation by The Wall Street Journal, the Israeli military has established a secret logistics center in the Iraqi desert. This facility has become a key element in Israel’s strategy to contain Iran, providing support to the air force and special forces in the heart of the region, reports Glavkom, citing the WSJ.

According to U.S. officials, the outpost was built immediately before the start of the active phase of the conflict with Iran. Its main task is to serve as a hub for the Israeli Air Force and special operations units. Search and rescue teams play a special role, ensuring the evacuation of pilots in the event that aircraft are shot down over enemy territory.

The secret was nearly revealed in early March when a local shepherd noticed suspicious helicopter activity and alerted the authorities. Iraq sent troops to investigate, but Israel, to maintain the facility’s secrecy, launched airstrikes against Iraqi forces, keeping them at bay. This demonstrates Israel’s readiness to take decisive action to maintain its strategic advantage over Iran.

Interestingly, following the attacks on its military, Iraq filed an official complaint with the UN, accusing the United States of carrying out the airstrikes. However, WSJ sources emphasize that Washington did not participate in this operation. This incident underscores the complexity of hybrid warfare in the Middle East, where the interests of various players intertwine amid total secrecy.
