On October 1 in Kyiv, two Russian attack drones struck near a support structure of the South Bridge. As a result of the attack, subway and public transportation service across the bridge was completely halted, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The first reports of a drone strike emerged around noon, when it became known that a bridge pier closer to the left bank of the Dnipro River had been hit. Later, reports came in of another strike, this time on the bridge itself, causing concern among the capital’s residents.
In light of these events, the metro announced restrictions on train service on the “green” line between the “Syrets” and “Vydubychi” stations. Metro service across the South Bridge was suspended, which made it difficult for passengers to get around.
Vitali Klitschko confirmed the attack and noted that specialists from the Kyivavtoshlyakhmist municipal enterprise are already inspecting the structure’s condition following the strikes. This is an important step in assessing potential damage and ensuring the bridge’s safety.
Videos posted online show a Russian UAV striking the bridge’s structure, with debris falling onto the roadway. This situation has caused concern among drivers and pedestrians who use this route.
