Russia has failed to achieve any strategic objectives in the war against Ukraine, and now the Kremlin is attempting to derail the peace process by issuing unrealistic ultimatums. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing remarks made by Andriy Melnyk, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, during a meeting of the UN Security Council.
The illusion of victory instead of real achievements
According to the diplomat, Russia is trying to create a distorted picture of the actual situation on the front lines. “We are witnessing a carefully staged performance that Russia continues to put on,” Melnik emphasized. While the situation on the battlefield is deteriorating for the Kremlin, Moscow is creating the illusion of its invincibility and demonstrating that it is supposedly on the verge of a complete victory and Ukraine’s surrender.
Putin’s ultimatums are blocking negotiations
The diplomat stressed that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s position in the negotiations is based on bluff and falsehood. Specifically, the bluff lies in the claim of Russia’s inevitable victory, and the falsehood lies in the Kremlin’s willingness to agree to a settlement of the conflict.
