The head of one of the villages in the Novokakhovka community in the Kherson region, who was found guilty of treason, received a 15-year prison sentence with confiscation of property. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the man worked for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), gathering information on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and coordinating Russian artillery strikes.
It has been established that his collaboration with the occupiers began during the occupation of the Kherson region in 2022. The village head compiled lists of residents for the occupation administration, which were used during the sham referendum. He also obtained a Russian passport, planning to flee to Russia.
After the liberation of the Kherson region, the man remained in the village and began posting anti-Ukrainian comments on social media, which drew the attention of the SBU. After being recruited, he continued to gather data on the locations of Ukrainian military personnel, enlisting his mother’s help in doing so.
Counterintelligence detained the village head as he was preparing to travel to the Mykolaiv region, where he planned to coordinate the occupiers’ strikes. During a search, a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with the FSB and a Russian passport were discovered.
The court took all the circumstances of the case into account and found the village head guilty of treason under martial law.
