Three Russian oil tankers were targeted by drone strikes in the Black Sea near the northern coast of Turkey. The incidents occurred on Thursday, and fortunately, no one was injured.
This was reported by the Tribeca shipping agency, and the information was relayed by Ukrinform, citing Türkiye Today.
The tanker James II, flying the Palau flag and sailing in ballast, was hit in the engine room approximately 80 kilometers north of the Turkel area and 47 miles from the strait. There were 20 crew members on board, all of whom remained unharmed.
Two other tankers, the Altura and the Velora, flying the Sierra Leone flag and also unloaded, were attacked in a neighboring area during a ship-to-ship transfer operation.
“Coast Guard boats were dispatched to the scene. It is reported that all crew members aboard the three vessels were unharmed,” the statement said.
Neither Russia nor Ukraine has claimed responsibility for these incidents.
Earlier, on March 26, the oil tanker Altura, which is subject to sanctions by the EU, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the UK, was also attacked in the Black Sea, 14 miles from the Bosphorus. The tanker, loaded with approximately 1 million barrels of Urals crude oil, was sailing from Novorossiysk. The Velora had also previously come under attack by maritime drones.
