Fuel shortages in Russia are now compounded by difficulties in the chemical industry, which also serves the needs of the military-industrial complex.
Russia is facing new challenges for its military economy. Following the fuel crisis, statistics indicate a decline in ammonium nitrate production.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the Center for Countering Disinformation.
Ammonium nitrate is used in both the agricultural sector and the military-industrial complex. According to Rosstat data, production volumes in Russia have fallen by 9% over the past year. In May, the decline reached 14% year-over-year, marking the worst figure since the beginning of the year.
The Center for Countering Disinformation attributes the situation to Ukrainian strikes on Russian industrial facilities. Officially, however, Russia attributes the decline to “unscheduled repairs.”
In particular, the Azot chemical plant in the Tula region—one of the largest producers of chemical products for Russia’s defense industry—was recently targeted.
“The decline in production in Russia’s chemical industry is further evidence of the effectiveness of Ukrainian strikes. Although Russian propagandists are trying to convince the public that Ukrainian UAVs do not cause significant damage, official statistics show the opposite,” the Center concluded.
In addition, *The Economist* noted that Ukrainian strikes on Russia are affecting its economy and military production more than previously thought.
