In Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, the cherry season is in full swing, and prices for this popular fruit vary significantly across different parts of the city. Journalists from Glavkom conducted a comparative analysis of prices at markets near the “Heroes of the Dnipro” and “Poznyaki” metro stations.
At the market near “Heroiv Dnipra,” yellow cherries cost 100 UAH per kilogram, while dark varieties can be purchased for 110 UAH. The largest and highest-quality berries sell for 150 UAH per kilogram.
Prices are slightly higher at the “Poznyaki” market. Dark cherries there cost 160 UAH per kilogram, and the largest, highest-quality berries reach 200 UAH.
Thus, the price difference between the cheapest offerings at the two markets is 60 UAH, and between the most expensive ones—50 UAH. The price of cherries in Kyiv ranges from 100 to 200 UAH per kilogram, depending on the neighborhood, variety, and size of the berries.
Both markets offer a wide selection of varieties—from light to dark. Cheaper options tend to be smaller berries, while larger fruits traditionally command a higher price. Sellers note that the price also depends on the origin of the produce and the volume of the new harvest arriving at the markets daily.
In early June, “Glavkom” had already reported on cherry prices in Kyiv. At that time, prices ranged from 69.9 UAH to 250 UAH per kilogram, depending on the variety’s popularity and the quality of the berries. Sellers predicted that prices would fall as the supply of the Ukrainian harvest increased.
