Belgium Knocks the U.S. Out of the 2026 World Cup and Engages in Political Trolling on the Field

In the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup, Belgium defeated the United States 4–1, putting on a real show on the field in Seattle. The match was memorable not only for Charles De Ketelaere’s brilliant performance but also for the political trolling that took place during the goal celebrations.

De Ketelaere’s Triumph and a Fateful Moment for the U.S.

Hoping to build momentum after their victory over Bosnia, the American team was stunned by Belgian skill as early as the 9th minute, when De Ketelaere opened the scoring. However, the situation later became more difficult for the Belgians due to an injury to Amadou Onana, who was replaced by Hans Vanaken.

In the 31st minute, American soccer player Malik Tillman took a free kick that ricocheted off Vanaken’s head and into the net—1–1. Belgium quickly regained the lead thanks to a second goal by De Ketelaere, who scored off a pass from Leandro Trossard.

Pulisic’s Injury and Fries’ Mistake

After the break, the Americans’ star player, Christian Pulisic, suffered an injury, and goalkeeper Matthew Fries made a critical mistake by straying far outside the penalty area. This allowed Hans Vanaken to react quickly and take a shot, solidifying Belgium’s lead.
