The spawning season began in early May in the estuaries of the Odesa region and in the Black Sea, during which fishing is prohibited. Violations of these rules may result in fines or even criminal liability.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the State Agency for Land Reclamation, Fisheries, and Food Programs.
Duration of the spawning season
According to the State Agency for Fisheries, the ban on catching aquatic biological resources will last until June 15 in the following estuaries:
- Tiligul Estuary;
- Grigorivsky Estuary;
- Dofinovsky Estuary;
- Shabolatsky Estuary;
- Sukhy Estuary;
- Tuzliv Estuaries.
During this same period, fishing for certain species of fish, including pelengas and gobies, is prohibited in the Black Sea. Fishing for Black Sea turbot is also prohibited until May 30.
Purpose of the ban
The main purpose of the ban is to create optimal conditions for the reproduction of valuable species of our fish fauna, the State Agency for Fisheries emphasized.
