Armenia faces a critical political choice that will determine its future. Following the tragic events of three years ago, when the country suffered a military defeat at the hands of Azerbaijan, the question of its foreign policy direction has taken on particular urgency. The parliamentary elections have turned into a kind of plebiscite on confidence in the current government and its desire to reach an agreement with its neighbors by severing ties with Moscow. Civic Contract Party (Nikol Pashinyan): remains the leader with support from up to 32% of voters. Its main slogan is preserving sovereignty through diversification of partners and rapprochement with the West.
Strong Armenia Party (pro-Russian bloc): ranks second with support from about 11% of respondents. The bloc is openly funded and supported by Russian business.
