A tragedy occurred in Khmelnytskyi: two people were killed and two others were injured when a passenger train collided with a car. According to Glavkom, citing the Khmelnytskyi Regional Police, the incident occurred at a controlled railroad crossing on Ivan Franko Street.
According to police, the accident occurred on June 29 at approximately 2:21 a.m. The 21-year-old driver of the car ignored the red traffic light and audible warnings and drove onto the railroad crossing, where a collision occurred with the “Chop–Yasinya–Kyiv” train.
As a result of the impact, the driver and one of the car’s passengers sustained injuries and were hospitalized at the Khmelnytskyi Regional Hospital. Two other passengers, both 18-year-olds, died: the girl died at the scene, and the boy died later at the hospital.
A criminal investigation has been launched into the accident under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years. The driver may also have his driver’s license revoked for up to three years. The investigation is ongoing.
As a reminder, on May 1 in the Lviv region, the “Kyiv–Uzhhorod” train derailed after colliding with a truck-mounted crane, resulting in the death of the train engineer, a war veteran.
