In Bukovina, law enforcement officers detained a 54-year-old resident of the village of Yizhivtsi who is suspected of attacking police officers. According to the investigation, during a search, the man opened fire and wounded two officers, after which he fled and remained in hiding for 11 days. This was reported by “Glavkom,” citing the National Police of Ukraine.
The incident occurred on July 28. Police officers arrived at the suspect’s home to conduct an authorized search as part of a criminal investigation into the illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. According to law enforcement, during the search, the man suddenly grabbed a weapon and opened fire on the police officers. As a result of the shooting, two criminal investigation officers sustained gunshot wounds and are currently in the hospital.
After the attack, the man fled and went into hiding in a forested area. A special police operation was launched in the region to search for him. For 11 days, law enforcement officers checked possible locations where the suspect might be, thoroughly searched the area, and analyzed the information they received.
Eventually, the man was found in a building where dry grass was stored. During a search of his residence, police seized ammunition, which was sent for forensic analysis. The issue of imposing a preventive measure in the form of pretrial detention on the suspect is currently being decided.
It should be noted that in April 2026, this man had already opened fire on military personnel and a police officer in the Rivne region, resulting in injuries to one soldier and one police officer.
