A shooting occurred during the Bite of Seattle food festival in Seattle, Washington, leaving two people dead and five injured. This information was reported by the publication “Glavkom,” citing the Associated Press.
The incident occurred toward the end of the festival, which annually attracts hundreds of food vendors, performers, and thousands of visitors near the famous Space Needle. According to Grace Núñez, a spokeswoman for the Seattle Fire Department, two people died at the scene. The five injured, including a two-year-old boy, were taken to Harborview Medical Center. A 56-year-old woman was also seriously injured and is in critical condition, along with three others—a 23-year-old man and two women aged 39 and 40. The hospital reported that the victims sustained injuries to their arms, abdomens, and legs.
Following the shooting, police evacuated the festival grounds and urged residents to avoid the Seattle Center area. As of this morning, there was no information regarding the arrest of a suspect.
Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson noted that he is receiving real-time updates on the situation and that state patrol officers are involved in the investigation. Witnesses reported that panic broke out after the first shots were fired; people began fleeing, taking cover in nearby buildings and leaving behind their personal belongings and vendor tents. As people fled, some fell, and baby strollers tipped over.
