Attorney General Ruslan Kravchenko announced the early termination of the powers of one of the members of the selection committee responsible for screening candidates for positions in the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
This decision was made based on a proposal from the commission itself during a meeting on September 1, which was supported by a majority of its members. The Prosecutor General did not name the specific member, but Transparency International Ukraine identified Oleksiy Shevchuk.
Kravchenko appealed to the Council of Prosecutors of Ukraine to hold a competition as soon as possible to renew the commission’s membership. He urged that the candidate selection process not be halted while the procedures are underway.
Oleksiy Shevchuk, in turn, announced his resignation effective September 7, emphasizing that this renders the commission unable to make decisions.
Transparency International Ukraine noted that the law allows the commission to make decisions if at least four of its six members are present, so the commission’s work can continue despite the absence of one of its members.
