In August of this year, Russian occupation forces began using the new "Filin" cruise missile to strike targets in Ukraine, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.
The "Filin" missile has a fuselage length of 3.5 meters and a wingspan of three meters. It is capable of reaching speeds of up to 800 km/h and can fly at extremely low altitudes of up to six kilometers.
The missile has a range of up to 1,200 km, and its warhead can weigh 50 or 100 kilograms. Some components of this missile are manufactured using 3D printing.
The missile is launched from a ground-based launcher using a solid-propellant booster. A Chinese-made inertial navigation system and the 16-channel “Kometa” system are used for target guidance.
It is known that PLAZ LLC manufactures the onboard equipment for this missile, while Reynolds LLC produces the R500 engine. Russian forces have already stockpiled several thousand cruise missiles and about 700 ballistic missiles.
