How to Stabilize the Power Grid During a Heat Wave: New Measures from Shmyhal

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal announced new directives for energy companies aimed at stabilizing the power grid during the extreme heat.

According to Ukrinform, Shmyhal noted on his Telegram channel that the power grid is under significant strain due to high temperatures.

To ensure stability during peak consumption periods, the minister ordered the optimization of maintenance schedules at nuclear power units, which will allow for increased electricity production. He also ordered the completion of emergency repair work and the activation of at least 300 MW of thermal generation capacity.

There are plans to use cogeneration units for additional power generation, particularly gas-fired generators. The active use of energy storage systems is also planned, which will increase available capacity by 300 MW.

Shmyhal emphasized the need to import electricity from EU countries and to explore opportunities for state-owned enterprises to increase imports.
