How pensions for working pensioners will change from April 1, 2026

A pension recalculation is scheduled to take place in Ukraine starting April 1, 2026. These changes apply only to pensioners who continue to work. The adjustment will occur automatically, taking into account the insurance period accumulated after retirement, according to Glavkom.

Who will receive the recalculation

In accordance with Article 42 of the Law of Ukraine “On Compulsory State Pension Insurance,” recalculation is possible for individuals who:

  • continued to work after their pension was granted and accumulated at least 24 months of insurance coverage;
  • or if at least two years have passed since the date of the last pension award or recalculation, even if the insurance record is less than 24 months.

How the recalculation works

The recalculation is performed automatically without the need to contact the Pension Fund. The system analyzes the records and selects the most favorable option for the pensioner:

  • Based solely on service: if the salary was officially lower than the one used to initially calculate the pension.
  • Based on both length of service and earnings: if the salary increased after retirement.

What about payment dates

Although the recalculation begins on April 1, pensioners will receive the updated amounts only in June. This is because employers’ reports for the first quarter are submitted in May. In June, the increased pension is paid along with the back pay for April and May.

Amount of the increase

There is no fixed supplement. The amount of the increase depends on individual factors, including length of service and earnings.
