Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed skepticism about the recent talks between European leaders and Russian President Vladimir Putin. She noted that this meeting “was not coordinated with any of us,” pointing out that other EU countries were not informed about these talks.
Frederiksen emphasized that there are currently no signs indicating Russia’s desire for peace with Europe. She cited the ongoing hybrid war and the daily aggressive attacks on Ukraine as the main reasons for maintaining unity among European countries.
“I believe we need to preserve European unity rather than act alone,” the prime minister added, calling for joint action in response to threats from Russia.
As a reminder, journalists from The Telegraph reported on the EU’s decision to abandon the appointment of a single special representative for peace negotiations in Ukraine. Instead, there are plans to form a team of delegates that could include the Danish prime minister, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gara Stere, and other European leaders.
According to media reports, this approach aims to avoid competition for the role of chief envoy and prevent the use of a veto as a tool to block decisions during negotiations.
