The European Union is not yet ready for direct negotiations with Russia. First, a common position must be established, and to that end, a meeting of EU foreign ministers will take place in late May.
This information was provided by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, at a meeting of the EU Council in Brussels.
The Need for Discussion
Kallas explained that the “Gimnih” meeting—an informal summit of EU foreign ministers scheduled for May 27–28—is of the utmost importance. “First, we must decide among ourselves what we want to discuss with Russia,” she noted.
Key issues
The agenda will include proposals on key security issues. The main problem, according to Callas, is that Russia is constantly attacking its neighbors.
Kallas recently visited Moldova, where Russian troops are still stationed. She cited their withdrawal as one of the possible conditions for stability in the region.
"There are, of course, many issues related to our demands on Russia for a stable and peaceful Europe," she added.
