The Ukrainian state budget received $51.5 million thanks to funding from the Japanese government, which was transferred by the World Bank as part of the THRIVE project. This was made possible by an increase in the number of stroke patients being treated in hospitals that use modern treatment methods.
The funding was received from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development through the ADVANCE Ukraine trust fund, supported by the Japanese government. The THRIVE project aims to transform Ukraine’s healthcare system through reform and investments in efficiency.
THRIVE is implemented under the “Program-for-Results” model, in which funding is provided only upon the achievement of specified indicators. The total program volume is $1.2 billion, of which Ukraine has already received $449 million.
The main goal of the project is to improve the effectiveness of the Medical Guarantees Program, which involves optimizing healthcare providers, modernizing payment methods, and strengthening Ukraine’s National Health Service.
THRIVE includes ten performance indicators, among which are improving the Medical Guarantees Program’s service packages and increasing funding for primary health care. The project also aims to introduce new financing mechanisms for hospitals and develop solar energy in medical facilities.
