The integration of artificial intelligence into the military sector is becoming vital for Ukraine. Within a few years, the front lines could be protected by autonomous systems. These prospects were outlined by Danylo Tsivok, head of the Ministry of Defense’s Center for Defense Artificial Intelligence, according to Glavkom, citing the Associated Press.
Autonomous Systems for Survival
Tsivok noted that AI is already helping Ukraine defend its territory and reduce risks to military personnel. The main goal is to stay one step ahead of the enemy in decision-making.
“The future lies with autonomous systems. AI allows us to automate the process of targeting. This is not only a competitive advantage but also a matter of survival,” he added.
Achievements of ground robots
An important milestone is the use of ground robotic platforms. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that in the first three months of this year, ground drones carried out over 20,000 missions, including logistics and the evacuation of the wounded. Some attacks are already being conducted without human involvement.
The Ukrainian defense sector includes over 2,000 manufacturers and technology firms that are testing swarms of drones to reduce the workload on operators.
International Cooperation and Security
Tsivok emphasized that Ukraine does not seek to create fully autonomous “killer robots,” but rather focuses on the safe integration of technology into the military sphere.
