The Ukrainian women’s tennis team advanced to the Billie Jean King Cup final for the first time in history. This achievement was accomplished despite the absence of one of the team’s leading players.
In the semifinal, held on September 24, 2026, in Shenzhen, the Ukrainian women faced the Italian team, the defending champions. In the first match, Angelina Kalinina defeated Tyra Grant 6–3, 6–4.
After that, Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, took the court for the third time, where she also had no trouble in her match against Jasmine Paolini, winning 6–2, 6–2.
Thus, with a 2–0 lead, Ukraine advanced to the Billie Jean King Cup final for the first time, where it will face the Czech Republic on September 27.
This success marks an important milestone for Ukrainian tennis, as the team also reached the semifinals last year but was defeated by the Italian team, which went on to become the champion.
