The Ukrainian women’s tennis team made a historic breakthrough by reaching the Billie Jean King Cup final for the first time. This success was achieved despite the absence of one of the team’s leading players.
In the semifinal match, held in Shenzhen, China, the Ukrainian tennis players faced off against the defending champions—the Italian team. In the first match, Angelina Kalinina defeated Tyra Grant 6–3, 6–4.
Next on the court was Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, who confidently defeated Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-2. Thus, Ukraine defeated Italy 2-0.
In the Billie Jean King Cup final, scheduled for September 27, the Ukrainian team will face the Czech Republic. It is worth noting that last year, the Ukrainian women also reached the semifinals but lost to the Italians, who ultimately became the champions.
