Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has stated that his country may join the effort to block the €90 billion EU loan to Ukraine. In an interview with Aktuality, he noted that the actions of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán are justified.
Orbán is blocking the loan, citing the halt in Russian oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline as his reason. Fico supported this position, noting that “Zelenskyy cannot run the European Union.”
The Slovak Prime Minister emphasized that in the future, the country may also block the loan, though he did not specify the possible circumstances for such a decision. He stressed that halting the “Druzhba” pipeline is a political move and asserted that Russian oil could strengthen Europe’s energy security.
A rift emerged at the summit in Brussels, where Hungary and Slovakia refused to sign the final conclusions on support for Ukraine. This caused a stir among EU leaders, who believe that Orbán violated the agreements by first agreeing to the funding and then blocking it.
