U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented on the incident near RAF Fairford Air Base in the United Kingdom, where suspects in the planning of a terrorist attack were detained. According to him, “foreign actors” are involved in this incident, and more information on the case will be released in the near future.
Rubio noted that many people are concerned about the release on bail of five individuals who were arrested on suspicion of a terrorist plot. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, which could have posed a threat to security in the United Kingdom, and thanked the British authorities for their cooperation.
The Secretary of State also hinted at Iran’s possible involvement in the incident, noting that Iran has openly threatened attacks on U.S. interests outside the United States. He recalled the recent seizure of a U.S. underwater drone in the Strait of Hormuz, which demonstrates Iran’s activity in the region.
Rubio emphasized that the U.S. takes threats from Iran seriously and is prepared to respond to any attempts to attack American interests. He also noted that the events of last weekend posed a serious threat and expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for its assistance in the investigation.
As a reminder, on September 27, British police detained several men on suspicion of offenses related to explosives near an airbase frequently used by U.S. troops. The UK has granted the U.S. permission to use this base for strikes against Iranian missile facilities.
