Eleven Peruvian citizens who were recruited into the Russian army have died in the war. Of the 459 Peruvians recruited, 114 are considered missing in action, and three are being held captive in Ukraine.
This information was released by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to Ukrinform, citing Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. The ministry also noted that 31 Peruvians were evacuated, of whom 28 returned home, while three decided to remain in Europe.
Peruvian diplomats are warning against suspicious job offers, which could be a trap for human trafficking. According to the Peruvian Constitution, service in foreign armies requires government authorization.
Earlier, Ukrinform reported on an investigation by the Peruvian prosecutor’s office into cases where Peruvian citizens were recruited for “work in Russia” but were instead sent to the front lines in Ukraine.
