Negotiations with the EU on membership: Klympush-Tsintsadze predicts difficulties

Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU, anticipates a difficult negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

In an interview with Ukrinform, Klympush-Tsintsadze noted: “There is a general consensus within the EU that our membership is inevitable. However, this does not rule out the presence of skeptics who question our capabilities. This indicates that the discussions will be complex, especially in certain sectors that require changes and transformations.”

In particular, she drew attention to the concerns already expressed by representatives of the agricultural sector in Belgium and France regarding Ukraine’s integration.

Also, according to Klympush-Tsintsadze, special attention will be paid to the “Fundamentals” cluster, which includes the rule of law, the balance of powers, and the functioning of democratic institutions—all aspects that are critical for EU membership.

“We must understand that EU member states have legitimate concerns that could be exploited and amplified by our adversaries in Russia, potentially leading to protests, harsh statements, or actions. Therefore, we need not only to negotiate with European institutions and fulfill our obligations, but also to communicate effectively with…,” she added.
