Kryvyi Rih is shifting into survival mode due to economic difficulties

Oleksandr Vilkul, chairman of the Kryvyi Rih Defense Council, announced that the city is transitioning to “survival mode,” which entails budget cuts and the suspension of some development projects.

These measures were prompted by a decline in tax revenues from industrial enterprises, particularly due to the suspension of operations at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, the Ingulets and Pivdenny Mining and Processing Plants, as well as the Kryvyi Rih Iron Ore Plant.

Vilkul noted that other enterprises are operating at no more than a quarter of their pre-war capacity, and problems with shipping products through ports have also affected the situation.

The authorities promise to maintain the operation of critical infrastructure, but emphasize that the focus right now is not on development, but on survival. “Right now, we need to survive,” Vilkul stressed.

The budget forecast for 2027 looks bleak, and schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and water and heat supply remain among the priorities.
