Israeli Ambassador to the UN: Truce with Lebanon at risk of violation

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, expressed concern about the stability of the ceasefire with Lebanon, warning that it is not guaranteed.

In comments to CNN, as reported by Ukrinform, Danon noted that the Lebanese government has limited ability to control the situation in the south, where the Iran-backed Hezbollah group is active.

“The Lebanese government has no influence over Hezbollah, which is firing rockets in an attempt to undermine the ceasefire agreement. Israel is forced to respond. We take the necessary measures whenever there is a threat,” Danon explained.

He acknowledged that the current agreement is better than previous attempts but still far from perfect. “This is a better situation, but not 100%. I hope that the Lebanese military will be able to ensure compliance with the ceasefire,” the ambassador added.

Recall that U.S. President Donald Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon for another three weeks following a meeting with representatives of both countries at the White House.
