Former Head of the Commercial Court of Cassation Charged with Corruption

On September 23, detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and prosecutors from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) served a notice of suspicion on the former chair of the Commercial Court of Cassation within the Supreme Court. Investigators believe that in 2021–2022, he purchased real estate and land worth a total of approximately 26 million hryvnias, concealing his actual ownership by registering the assets in the name of his subordinate’s mother.

The former subordinate of the ex-court president and her mother are also implicated in the case. According to NABU, the assets in question include a house with a land plot, two apartments, and four land plots. Investigators believe that to conceal the illegal origin of the funds, the former court president enlisted his subordinate, who served as his secretary.

The property was officially registered in the name of the subordinate’s mother, which, according to NABU’s version of events, allowed them to cover up traces of criminal activity and launder the assets. The actions of the former court president and the subordinate’s mother were classified as the legalization (laundering) of funds obtained by criminal means on an especially large scale.

The subordinate is suspected of aiding and abetting in this case. The Anti-Corruption Bureau has not disclosed the suspect’s name; however, according to open sources, Bohdan Lviv headed the Commercial Court of Cassation in 2021–2022.

Lviv, who in 2022 denied possessing a Russian passport, was subsequently removed from his position as head of the Commercial Court of Cassation and from his position as a judge. In June 2025, he was also charged in the “Medvedchuk’s Pipes” case involving the takeover of Ukrtransnafta.
