An Agency for Applied Research Is Being Established in Ukraine

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has announced the creation of an Agency for Applied Research, which will be responsible for gathering information on the needs of the front lines, government ministries, and technology companies. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Denys Kurbatov in an interview with Oksana Onishchenko, editor of the education and science section at ZN.UA.

The agency will seek out Ukrainian scientists capable of meeting the sector’s needs. According to Kurbatov, its functions will also include identifying clients and interested companies for the research projects of Ukrainian scientists.

Initially, the Agency for Applied Research will not be a separate legal entity but will operate as a special structural unit within the Ukrainian Institute of Scientific and Technical Expertise and Information. According to the deputy minister, this unit will be granted reasonable autonomy and will be coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Science’s Directorate for Innovation.

Kurbatov also emphasized that the expansion of the Agency’s functions will depend on its success in fulfilling its assigned tasks.

He also announced a pay raise for researchers next year, though he did not specify the exact percentage of the increase.
